Andy,

First of all, I wish you lots of luck in your new sales career.

What makes a top notch sales professional? Top notch sales pros have mastered many things. They know how to manage their time wisely and use this skill to close more business. They also have learned the fine art of prospecting for new business. Over the years they have honed their sales skills and have learned how to listen closely to customers needs to gain a better understanding of what the customer actually is communicating. They also have learned how to overcome customer objections. Last but not least, they have a plan. They know what number they have to hit and they work their plan diligently.

While all the above are important and will help you succeed they are not what I would call absolutely critical. In my humble opinion the most important thing in sales to stay true to yourself. Don't be someone you're not! Be Andy! Let the customer see you as a fellow human being; not just someone who is trying to sell them something. Last but not least be honest and be a sales pro of high moral integrity.

Al
